TwinWorld: Land of Vision, released in 1990, was an adventure game by Commodore 64. It was the first game to feature a fully interactive 3D world. Players took on the role of a traveling hero, navigating a mysterious and magical land, filled with peculiar creatures, puzzles and secrets.
The game's unique graphics and sound design set it apart from other Commodore 64 titles. Its world was composed of detailed, hand-drawn backgrounds and characters, as well as complex, animated environments. The game also featured a range of original music tracks to accompany the action.
Gameplay focused heavily on exploration, with players searching the land for hidden items, secrets and clues. As the player progressed through the game, they would gradually uncover the truth behind the land of TwinWorld. While the game was relatively short, its puzzles and challenges were often complex, requiring the player to think critically in order to progress.
TwinWorld: Land of Vision also featured an innovative multiplayer mode, allowing up to four players to join in on the adventure. Players could cooperate to solve puzzles or compete in races and mini-games. This was a unique feature for the time, as there were few games that allowed multiple players to join in on the same experience.
TwinWorld: Land of Vision was an ambitious project for its time. It showcased the potential of the Commodore 64 and was a technical marvel for its time. Its unique art style and sound design still stand out today, and its puzzles and secrets remain enjoyable to uncover. It may not have been the most popular Commodore 64 game, but it certainly stands out as one of the more ambitious and memorable titles of the era.
Moonquake is a Bomberman variant with one and two player modes. Players are experts in rock blasting and salvage operations, whose mission is to prevent the destruction of the moon by removing all rocks that interfere with the moon's ventilation system. This is done by placing bombs to remove all rocks. There are two types of reactors in the base and the player must be careful with them. The red and blue reactors can be defeated with one shot, but the yellow and green ones must not be hit all the way through. If too many of them are hit, a large atomic bomb will explode. You can also find security droids around the base whose control circuits have been disabled. You can destroy them with bombs, but contact with them is fatal. The player's backpack can initially produce a low-power bomb. However, by collecting energy cells, multiple bombs with more power and range can be placed. Some energy cells also have unknown effects, such as becoming invincible for a short period of time or stopping time. In multiplayer mode, the objective is to kill the second player. Play locally on the same computer.
Here is the video game 'The Crystal Maze'! Released in 1994 on DOS, it is still available and playable with some tweaks. It is a strategy game, set in a game show and licensed title themes and was released on Acorn 32-bit as well.
Leeds United Champions! is a management soccer simulator in which the player takes control of Leeds United, the English champions of the 1991/92 season, in the fourth division; the goal is to conquer the Premier League in the long run. The game is entirely menu-driven and submenus are accessed through a list of icons in the main menu. In those menus the player can configure all the usual options of the genre, e. g. training, transfer market, lineup, ticket prices, youth section or stadium expansion. There is no presentation of the matches; only a screen representing a live ticker that gives the goals and bookings. Each athlete has 15 statistics that influence his performance on the field.
Professor Mariarti is, as the title of the game suggests, a mad scientist. Not all of his experiments have worked as they should and now he has to turn off the power in five of his labs (the first four can be tackled in any order). The game plays like a standard platformer: Mariarti jumps over gaps between platforms and dodges enemies (she can take a few hits before she dies) until she reaches the end of the level, i. e. the kill switch.
At the beginning of the game he only throws wrenches to defend himself, but during the game he finds coins scattered around the labs. With them you can buy more advanced weapons, such as a laser cannon. However, dead enemies reappear after a short time. To advance, you also have to solve some puzzles by collecting objects and taking them to the right place. There are also several puzzles with switches.
1990, the year Bug Hunter / Moon Dash was released on Acorn 32-bit. Published by Minerva Software, this action puzzle game is available for free on this page.
EGO: Repton 4 is not to be confused with the Repton 4 that was included in Repton Infinity. In terms of gameplay, it is quite different from previous installments in the Repton series. While still focusing on puzzle solving, the player controls Repton (or Ego, as he is called here) from a top-down perspective and the goal of each level is to collect puzzle pieces that need to be assembled into an image of a famous person, a building, a painting, and so on. The player can only collect one piece at a time and has to bring it to a frame in the center of the level where it has to be placed in the right place. It is important to pick up the pieces in the correct order or else an empty place in the center might be blocked by surrounding pieces. A piece can only be dropped in the correct place and it is not possible to move pieces that have already been placed. The player also has to collect the gems that are found all over the levels. The picture cannot be completed if all the gems have not been collected. There are also different obstacles. Towers and trees can block the way and there are also holes to fall into and androids to avoid. There are also conveyors and conveyor belts that are needed to reach certain parts of the levels.
